NJ Governor Chris Christie understands how to use the power of video and a self-deprecating humorous message to increase his notoriety. Too often people in high profile positions are too serious and thus leave a general public feeling of apathy or even disdain. Humor is a great way to break the ice with supporters and detractors, but it has to be done smartly and with taste. We find Christie’s self-produced video here to be a great example of how to use the medium and social media to your advantage. Kudos also to the bipartisanship and cooperation from rival Democrat Cory Booker.

Who says bipartisanship is dead?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) and Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D) have managed to work together, at least to produce a parody that is being widely circulated on the Internet.

In a video shown at the New Jersey Press Association’s Legislative Correspondents Club dinner on Tuesday, the two rising stars from opposite ends of the political spectrum poke fun at themselves and each other.

Every time Booker (who is known for shoveling his constituents’ snow during blizzards and recently made headlines for pushing aside his security detail to rescue a neighbor from a fire) saves a kitten from a tree or finds a guitar for Bruce Springsteen, Christie grits his teeth and mutters, “Booker,” a la the famous rivalry between Newman and Seinfeld in the popular television sitcom.

Christie can’t manage to shine — until the end, when Booker gets a call that only Christie can handle, from former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
